Welcome to the knowledge tools pages of the EPC’s Sustainability toolkit, produced in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering and Siemens. Click here for the toolkit homepage.
These tools are designed to support educators’ awareness and understanding of sustainability topics in general as well as their connection to engineering education in particular. They are intended to provide a library of expertise in sustainability in engineering and explain concepts so educators can become familiar with the material. They aim to help situate our case studies in an educational context and to signpost to additional research and resources on sustainability in engineering.

Database of existing resources
In developing the case studies and guidance articles for the EPC’s Sustainability toolkit, the authors and steering group took into account recent scholarship on best practices in teaching sustainability through case studies. They also reviewed existing material to add to the growing body of material available on sustainability in engineering. You may find links to pages or online resources in our ever-growing database of engineering education resources for sustainability by clicking here.
Additional information
In developing these guidance articles steering group members and stakeholders agreed that building educator knowledge in this area was a critical step. Through these materials, educators will be able to quickly and easily find answers to their questions about:
- What Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) consists of;
- How engineering connects to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
- What sustainability content consists of;
- What sustainability competencies are;
- How those competencies relate to skills that employers need in engineering graduates.
